Chaos at German airports, delays and cancellations for hundreds of flights

Bad weather with frost, snowfall and dense fog has invaded central and western Europe in recent days.Screenshot 2025-01-05 152236As a result of the bad weather, problems have been caused with delays and cancellations of hundreds of flights departing from Germany, or with destinations in Germany.

Foreign media report delays and cancellations at Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart airports.

The most serious problems have been noted at Frankfurt airport, with at least 120 takeoffs and landings out of 1,090 originally scheduled for today being canceled, a representative of the airport's management company, Fraport, told German news agency dpa.

Runways need to be cleaned constantly because visibility is poor, and the process of removing ice from planes has caused long delays due to the weather, local media report.

At Munich airport, the problems are more limited, as there are fewer delays related to flight schedules.

Problems due to bad weather are also being observed in the operation of railways, mainly in the Frankfurt area, while authorities advise drivers to take special care on the roads, where there may be snow or ice.

In Lower Saxony, Bavaria and Thuringia, around 120 road accidents have been recorded since yesterday evening, but without serious injuries.
