No agreement on the Speaker of the Assembly, procedures resume on Monday

The constitutive session of the new Assembly of Kosovo was accompanied by important developments, where although the report on the verification of the mandates of the deputies was approved, there was no success in electing the new Speaker of the Assembly.

In the second round of voting for the position of Speaker of the Assembly, the candidate proposed by the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albulena Haxhiu, received 57 votes in favor, 19 against and 3 abstentions, falling short of the required number to be elected as the head of the legislature. As a result, the chairman of the session, Avni Dehari, decided to suspend the session for 48 hours, postponing it until Monday at 15:00.

However, in this session, the Assembly managed to vote unanimously on the report of the temporary Committee for the verification of mandates and quorum. The Chairman of the Committee, Artan Abrashi, presented to the deputies the report based on the certification of the results by the CEC, which also includes the full list of 120 new deputies.

After the approval of the report, the members of the Assembly of Kosovo took the oath, standing up and reading the relevant text in chorus, as a formal step for the beginning of the work of the new legislature.

All eyes are now on the next session, where the election of the Speaker of the Assembly will be tried again.
