Russia launches major attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure

Russia has launched a major attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which authorities said was the twelfth large-scale attack on energy facilities this year.

According to the BBC , ninety-three missiles and more than 200 drones were used, but 81 of them were shot down, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The attacks targeted sites in western Ukraine, with energy facilities in several regions damaged, some seriously. Authorities in Ivano-Frankivsk said it was the worst attack in the region so far.

Russia said the strike was in response to a Ukrainian attack on a military air base in southwestern Russia using US-made missiles, which US President-elect Donald Trump described as "crazy".
