Charles University in the Czech Republic reopens its doors a month after the

Exactly one month after the deadly shooting at Charles University in Prague, this institution partially reopened on Sunday to students, professors and other interested persons. Journalists and photographers have been asked not to attend the opening.

The Arts Department at this Czech university was rocked on December 21, 2021, when a student went on a mass shooting spree, killing 14 people and injuring many others. He then killed himself.

Many investigations are currently underway into the attacker and the Czech police's response to the attack. The purpose of reopening the Faculty of Arts on Sunday is to help students and staff ease back into academic life, with short lectures, book exchanges and musical performances. Officials have announced that psychological counseling will also be offered to those who need it.

It is believed that the repairs on the fourth floor of the building, where the attack took place, will cost tens of thousands of euros. Regular lectures for the spring semester in this faculty will start on February 19, except for the fourth floor. Founded in 1347, Charles University is the oldest and largest in the Czech Republic, and one of the oldest educational institutions in Europe. The attack on December 21 was the heaviest in the modern history of the Czech Republic./ REL
