"Xibraka" file, Ermal Hoxha appears in SPAK

The nephew of former dictator Enver Hoxha, Ermal Hoxha, appeared before the Special Prosecutor's Office against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) today. So far, the institution has not provided details on the reason for his summons.

Ermal Hoxha is a well-known name in Albanian justice, having been convicted for involvement in the drug laboratory in Xibraka, a case that was opened after a denunciation by the head of the DP Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi. The latter has accused Olsi Rama, the brother of Prime Minister Edi Rama, of being involved in this affair.

Hoxha was sentenced in July 2017 by the Serious Crimes Court to 10 years in prison, but thanks to the shortened trial, his sentence was reduced to 6 years and 8 months. However, he left the cell on September 13, 2018, receiving conditional release, while he still had 1 year and 8 months left in prison.

His arrest came during the international operation "Xibraka", conducted on January 14, 2015, which uncovered a cocaine laboratory in Xibraka, Elbasan. During the operation, 11 people were arrested, including two Colombian citizens.
