Former chief negotiator 'slaps' Rama: Dissolution of the Integration

Albania's former chief negotiator for membership in the European Union, Zef Mazi, has reacted sharply to the decision to dissolve the Integration Commission, considering it a negative signal for the priority that the "Rama" government gives to this process.

"The merger of the Integration Commission was not done right. Merging a commission that should be a priority means that you don't have it in your heart. This decision brings consequences and carries problems that need to be looked at carefully," said Mazi, linking the decision to the government's lack of a serious approach to integration.

In an interview for the show 'This Week' on News 24, Mazi analyzes the problems this merger poses, warning of the dangers.

"The dissolution of the Commission, to make it a widespread practice, carries another problem that must be carefully considered. Will the Ministry of Foreign Affairs deal with relations between the two states, or only with union issues? My opinion is that justifications can be given, but it should have been as it was. It is not good to separate them. It is the same as opening a group of chapters. The more chapters are opened, the more difficulties there are in closing them. Large teams must be specialized. We must close at least 1. Will it be closed in 2026. I doubt it will be closed," he said.
