A trophy in honor of Gianluca Vialli

The president of Sampdoria has suggested the creation of a four-team tournament in honor of former Italy striker Gianluca Vialli.

Vialli , whose death comes just weeks after Sinisa Mihajlovic and Brazilian legend Pele, passed away after a five-year battle with cancer.

In honor of the former Chelsea striker, Marco Lanna came up with the idea of a competition involving the four clubs Vialli played for.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Lanna said: "I would like to organize a quadrangle with Chelsea, Cremonese, Juventus and Sampdoria, a 'Luca Vialli trophy' in which the proceeds would go to charity. He was a master at that. "He always had Sampdoria in his heart, he called me to find out how things were going, the internal dynamics. He has always been very close to this club."

Lanna listed the four clubs Vialli played for throughout his career - starting with Cremonese before moving on to Sampdoria, Juventus and Chelsea.

Vialli represented Italy at the 1986 and 1990 World Cups, won the Champions League with Juventus in 1996 and gained popularity in England during a brief spell at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea paid their own tribute to Viall in the form of an emotional tweet and a statement from club chairman Todd Boehly.
