'Sterilization'/ Beqaj against justice, demands the overturning of the

Former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj, appeared before the court today in the case known as “Sterilization”, where he faces charges of abuse of office. During his speech, Beqaj rejected the charges and requested the immediate dismissal of the case.

"There is talk of sterilization, but in fact we are dealing with surgical instruments, sterilization is only one aspect," Beqaj told the court.

Beqaj emphasized that this case was previously investigated by the Tirana Prosecution Office and was dismissed in 2016 by prosecutor Endrit Bimi.

"This proceeding should not have been initiated at all. SPAK did not find any evidence to accuse me of theft, but instead charged me with 'abuse of office', an offense that Italy has removed from its Criminal Code," he said.

In his defense, Beqaj read European Union directives and laws that protect the rights of the accused, arguing for procedural violations.

"I request that Judge Davidhi's decision be declared invalid and that the case be immediately dismissed," he declared.

The court process is expected to continue with the review of the parties' requests and the evidence in the file.
