Torrential rainfall hits southeastern France, 3 confirmed victims

Three people have lost their lives as a result of the extreme weather that has engulfed southeastern France. Torrential rainfall and powerful storms have caused flooding and extensive damage in some areas of the country.

According to French media, among the victims is an elderly couple in their 80s, who lost their lives in the coastal town of Le Lavandou, while another person died in the city of Vidauban, in the Var region.

"We are experiencing a real tragedy," Jean-Laurent Félizia, a member of Le Lavandou's city council, told local media.
Similar extreme weather was also recorded in southwestern France, where torrential rains and hailstorms caused numerous floods, damage to infrastructure and disruptions to rail traffic.

A TGV high-speed train, with over 500 passengers, was forced to stop in the middle of the night near the town of Tonneins, due to damage to railway lines. The passengers were evacuated by buses in difficult atmospheric conditions.

The French authorities are on standby to cope with the consequences, while emergency services continue operations for relief and evacuation in the most affected areas.
