In the context of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Supreme State Audit Office, the EU Ambassador in Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, praised the role of the SAI in strengthening good governance and transparency in the country.

Gonzato emphasized that control must be exercised over the income and expenditure of public funds.

He said that "an independent, credible and effective SAI is a cornerstone for good governance and for Albania's membership in the European Union."

"EU legislation requires that institutions such as the SAI be independent and equipped with the appropriate resources and mandate to exercise control over all income and expenditure of public funds, including those of the European Union and other donors. Any changes that will be made must be in full compliance with the requirements of EU legislation and standards ," Gonzato said.
