Why don't young people want to get married anymore?

Marriage used to be the ultimate goal of every relationship. Today? Not anymore. The younger generation is seeing marriage differently – no longer as a “social obligation,” but as a personal choice, one that often goes unfulfilled.

1. Personal freedom is a priority

Many young people see marriage as a stop on their path to self-realization. The freedom to travel, experiment, change your mind, or simply be alone is worth more than a marriage certificate.

2. Fear of failure and divorce

In a society where separation is increasingly common, marriage is no longer a symbol of eternity. Fear of divorce, its emotional and financial costs, make young people hesitant to take the big step.

3. Economic crisis = love crisis

High prices, lack of financial stability, and difficulties in securing an independent life make many young people feel “unprepared” for marriage. Many choose cohabitation as a more flexible alternative.

4. Love has other forms

It's now normal to be in a long-term relationship without getting married. Modern relationships are less influenced by social norms and more by understanding between partners. "Why get married when everything works without a contract?"

5. Marriage is no longer a "duty"

Once upon a time, especially for women, marriage was the only way to have status, security, and purpose in life. Today, women are educated, working, and making choices. The only reason to get married today… is true love – and that doesn't happen often.
