Germany extends the stay of its troops in Kosovo

The German government has decided to extend the stay of several Bundeswehr missions abroad, including its participation in the NATO peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, KFOR.

For the decision to enter into force, it must be approved by the Bundestag (German Parliament).

German government spokesman Stefan Kornelius stated that Berlin is reaffirming its continued commitment to peace and stability in the region, German newspaper Zeit reports.

"The security situation in the country remains fragile ," said Kornelius.

Bundeswehr forces have been stationed in Kosovo since 1999 as part of NATO's KFOR mission.

The current number of German forces in Kosovo remains at 400 soldiers.
