US News and World Report has published its ranking of the best countries in the world based on quality of life, after surveying 17,000 people around the world.

According to the report, the best countries for quality of life were rated according to the following metrics:

- Affordability

-A good job market

-Economically stable

-Friendly family

-Equality of Income

-Politically stable

-Sure

-Well developed public health system

-Well developed public education system

Sweden is the best country in the world for affordability, safety and more.

According to Numbeo, the cost of living in Sweden is on average 20.9% lower than in the United States, while rent is 57.5% lower. While according to US News and World Report, Sweden is known for its free health care and university education.

The people of Sweden boast one of the longest life expectancies in the world, with an average age of 82.8 years, according to the CIA World Factbook.

The country has an excellent parental leave policy: Parents are entitled to 480 days of paid leave when a child is born or adopted. If there are two parents, each is entitled to 240 of those days.

Norway is ranked as the second best country in the world for quality of life. The country is trending towards gender equality, according to the CIA World Factbook.

The country's parental leave allows parents to share the care of their child at home for up to 49 weeks on full pay (or 59 weeks on 80% of their salary).

Norway also offers a monthly allowance to families from one month after the birth of a child until the age of 18 to cover some of the costs of raising children.

Norway's life expectancy at birth is 82.75 years, and as of 2013, it has been ranked in the top 10 happiest countries in the world in the World Happiness Report.
