The murder of Liridona Ademaj, the court leaves Naim Murseli in prison

The Basic Court in Prishtina has extended the detention measure for two more months to Naim Murseli, Kushtrim Kokalla and Granit Plava, suspected of the murder of Liridona Ademaj in November 2023.

The news was confirmed for Radio Free Europe by the professional associate at the Basic Court in Pristina, Medina Gashi.

"I inform you that the measure of detention for the defendants NM, GP and KK has been extended for two months by the Decision dated 23.08.2024, which measure will be calculated from 26.08.2024 to 25.10.2024, under the conditions legal provisions foreseen in the KPCK", said Gashi through a past answer.

Liridona Murseli, was killed at the age of 30, on November 29 of last year, on "Dalip Alshiqi" street in Pristina.

Initially, the Kosovo Police had reported the case as "robbery with consequences of murder".

But two days later, on December 1, 2023, the Police announced the arrest of two people, including her husband, Naim Murseli. From 2010 until now, around 60 women have been killed in Kosovo.

Human rights organizations have, in some cases, blamed the authorities for failing to protect women at risk of violence. In most cases, the perpetrators of the murders were husbands, then fathers and sons.
