Mariah Carey's mother Patricia and sister Alison died on the same day, the American singer announced.
"I'm heartbroken that I lost my mom last weekend," Carey said Monday. "Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day."
The Grammy-winning singer said she felt blessed to have spent time with her mother in the week before her death and asked for privacy. No further details on the cause of death have been released.
Patricia, 87, was an Irish-American former opera singer and vocal coach. In Carey's 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, the five-time Grammy Award-winning singer detailed her complicated relationship with her mother, saying she had caused her "a lot of pain and confusion."
