Chinese scientists introduce new test for Covid-19

Chinese scientists have said they have created a new test for coronavirus, which is as accurate as the PCR test, but which gives results within four minutes.

PCR tests are considered to be the most accurate for identifying coronavirus, but they take several hours.

Some states have faced delays in the time of high demand for tests, following the extension of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.

Researchers at Fudan University in Shanghai have said they have found solutions.

In an article published in the journal Nature Biomedical Engineering, the team said their sensor could reduce the time it takes to perform laboratory tests.

Samples of 33 infected people in Shanghai were included in their testing.

PCR tests were performed in parallel. According to the article, the results were "perfectly" matched to the PCR tests. PCR tests, in addition to being slower, also require laboratory infrastructure.
