Zelensky speech in the Israeli parliament: We want to live, but our neighbors

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has addressed the Israeli parliament. Zelensky has already spoken to other lawmakers around the world - including in the UK and US - as he has asked them for support.

Zelensky in this speech drew parallels between the Russian occupation and World War II He says the occupation "is not a military operation".

"It is a large-scale war aimed at destroying our people, destroying our children, our families, our citizenship, our cities, our cultures and everything that makes them Ukrainian. That's why I'm entitled to draw this parallel in history. "Our struggles for survival and World War II."

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told Israeli lawmakers that the Nazi Party, known as the NSDAP, had launched in Germany 102 years ago on February 24 - the same date Russia invaded Ukraine this year.

"They are saying these words again - the 'final solution' - about us, the Ukrainian nation ... it was said at a meeting in Moscow," said Zelensky, who is Jewish. Some of his relatives died in the Holocaust. He urged Israel to help the resistance of the Ukrainian people against the Russian army.

President Zelensky also quoted the late Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir, in his video message, as saying, "We want to live, but our neighbors want to see us dead."

"We remain, we are prepared for compromise," he added.
