May 11th Elections, Tabaku: Diaspora Support Will Influence Political Rotation

Democratic Party MP, Jorida Tabaku, has raised concerns about the obstacles that Albanian immigrants are facing in the registration process to vote in the May 11 parliamentary elections.

Invited to the News24 studio, Tabaku stated that the high number of rejections by the Central Election Commission (CEC) indicates that there is a bottleneck in the process, emphasizing that 40,000 people will not be allowed to vote as a result.

"Even those 40,000 people who were rejected have the right to vote. I have seen people registering myself and it is not an easy process," she said, adding that there is clear discrimination against the diaspora.

According to her, the immigrant vote can play a key role in the country's political change. "I believe that the support of the diaspora will influence the political rotation," said the Democratic MP, underlining the need for an inclusive and fair electoral process.

"I have personally seen people registering to vote and it is not an easy process. I am sorry to say that not every Albanian will vote in these elections and there is discrimination happening with the diaspora that should not have happened. I believe that the support of the diaspora will influence the political rotation," she said.
