November 28 is the day of Albania's Independence and the beginning of its journey as a separate state, separated from the Ottoman Empire. This date is historically special for Albanians all over the world as it marks two historical events: the declaration of independence in 1912 and the liberation of Kruja from Skanderbeg in 1443.

Today, Albania celebrates the 109th anniversary of the proclamation and many festive activities are expected to be held in Albania, Kosovo, Ceri Macedonia and the Diaspora.

The Declaration of Independence on November 28, 1912 by Ismail Qemali was declared in the Assembly of Vlora where 83 delegates from all Albanian territories in the Balkans participated. Shortly afterwards, the Assembly formed the first independent government, headed by Ismail Qemali, as well as the Council of Wise Men, also known as the Elders.

Njohja ndërkombëtare e pavarësisë së Shqipërisë dhe përcaktimi i kufijve shtetërorë të saj u bë në përfundim të Luftës Ballkanike, në Konferencën e Londrës, gjatë së cilës, për fat të keq, u kënaqën shumë nga synimet copëtuese dhe aneksuese ndaj trevave shqiptare të fqinjëve sllavo-grekë.
Gjithsesi, njohja e Shqipërisë si shtet i pavarur e sovran nga ana e Fuqive të Mëdha dhe dora-dorës, edhe nga shtete të tjerë, ishte një akt me rëndësi jetike për popullin dhe kombin shqiptar. Kjo ngjarje shënoi menjëherë një linjë demarkacioni në historinë shqiptare. Ajo ishte frut i emancipimit të shqiptarëve si komb dhe i përpjekjeve të pareshtura të tyre për të qëndruar të lidhur me familjen europiane të kombeve të emancipuar.

Me Aktin e 28 Nëntorit të vitit 1912 afirmohet e drejta e pamohueshme e kombit shqiptar për të qenë një dhe i bashkuar në trojet e tij natyralë, e drejtë që mbrohet sot e kësaj dite nga Kushtetuta e Republikës së Shqipërisë. E drejtë që nuk mohon aspak atë të popujve dhe kombeve të tjerë ballkanikë të jetojnë të bashkuar, të lirë e sovranë në trojet natyralë të tyre.

Kjo aspiratë dhe kjo perspektivë, edhe pse sot është transferuar politikisht në idenë e integrimit në Bashkimin Europian të të gjithë popujve dhe vendeve të Ballkanit, mbetet ende e ushqyer në mendjet dhe në zemrat e shqiptarëve kudo ku jetojnë, në trevat e tyre historike në Ballkan si dhe shqiptarëve të shumtë të diasporës.

This small Balkan country has diplomatic relations with 39 countries of the world and is known for its peace-loving policy in the region and in the world, as well as contributing to several missions in hot areas of the world, in the framework of international engagements.
