The Supreme Court annuls Bashkim Dedja's sentence, he will be retried at

The Supreme Court has decided to retry the case against the former head of the Constitutional Court, Bashkim Dedja, with another panel of judges in the same court.

Dedja was previously sentenced to 6 months in prison for concealing and falsely declaring assets, a sentence that was converted to 1 year of probation.

SPAK had requested a 1-year prison sentence, on the charge that he had hidden an apartment in the self-declaration form, and had made a false declaration about the source of his financing, a loan of 10 thousand euros from his brother-in-law, which, according to the investigation, was not financially justified.

In April 2021, a seizure measure was imposed on undeclared assets, a 146 m² apartment in Tirana.

Bashkim Dedja was the first case of a former judge dismissed from the vetting process being convicted by the GJKKO.

He passed the first phase of vetting, but was dismissed by the Special Appeals Chamber for failing to justify his assets, specifically an apartment in Durrës.
