Albanian drug gang dismantled in Belgium, 19 people arrested

The Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office has dismantled an Albanian criminal network specializing in the cultivation and distribution of drugs throughout Belgium. During a large-scale police operation, more than twenty raids were carried out in various apartments, leading to the arrest of 19 suspects.

The investigation began in October 2024, after Brussels-West police received information about a resident of Jette, who was suspected of being involved in the cultivation and trafficking of marijuana. Following telephone interceptions, field observations and financial analyses, authorities uncovered a structured criminal organization spread across several Belgian cities.

According to the prosecution, the gang used a wide network of residential properties to set up cannabis plantations, hidden in residential areas. In these premises, with monthly rents ranging from 1,700 to 2,600 euros,

During the latest operation, Belgian authorities discovered eleven cannabis plantations with 7,980 plants, with an annual production estimated at over one ton of cannabis, worth around 4.2 million euros.

Police also seized:

23 kilograms of marijuana
654 grams of cocaine
13 thousand euros in cash
5 vehicles
1 firearm
28 cell phones
Forged documents
Of the 19 people arrested, 14 were remanded in custody by the investigating judge, while one of them was sent to a closed center to be deported to Albania. Four others were released.

The Brussels prosecutor's office described the operation as a significant blow to an Albanian criminal network active in Belgium and across the country. However, investigations are ongoing and authorities have not provided further details on the progress of the case.
