Brussels court sentences 3 Serbs who killed Enver Hadri to life imprisonment

The Brussels Criminal Court has sentenced the three perpetrators of the murder of renowned Albanian activist Enver Hadri to life imprisonment. Veselin Vukotic and Andrija Draskovic were found guilty of Hadri's murder, while Bozidar Spacic was convicted of ordering the assassination.

Enver Hadri, chairman of the Committee for the Protection of Human Rights in Kosovo, was executed on February 25, 1990, while in his car in Saint-Gilles, Brussels. According to media reports, he was shot by another vehicle approaching him at a traffic light. The bullet to the head killed him instantly.

After a lengthy investigation, it was confirmed that the assassination was a political act ordered by the intelligence services of the former Yugoslavia, with the logistical support of the criminal world in Belgrade.

The court, together with the 12 jurists who participated in the case, did not accept any mitigating circumstances for the convicts, imposing the maximum sentence – life imprisonment.

Hadri's execution marked a great loss for the Albanian community and human rights efforts in Kosovo. This decision is considered an important step towards justice, even though 34 years have passed since the tragic event.
