KFOR Commander: The security situation in Kosovo is unstable and unpredictable

"Currently the general security situation in Kosovo is calm, but very fragile, unstable and unpredictable, due to some unresolved issues", said the commander of KFOR in Kosovo, Angelo Michele Ristuccia, at the meeting of the heads NATO troops in Brussels.

The two-day meeting of the NATO military committee, the highest body of the North-Atlantic alliance, was led by the head of this committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, and the Supreme Allied Commander of NATO Europe, General Christopher Cavolli and the Supreme Commander of the Alliance for Transformation, General Philippe Lavigne.

Admiral Bauer said that the soldiers in KFOR uniform are doing their best to maintain the peace, but according to him, the answer should not be only on the soldiers, because "there is a need for political responsibility".

The situation in Kosovo was the topic of the second day of this meeting, where the military leaders of the countries that have soldiers in the KFOR mission in Kosovo, which are not members of NATO, also participated.

The commander of KFOR has reiterated the position that this mission is ready and has the necessary capacities to act if necessary.

"As long as there will be an increase in tensions, insecurity among the population will escalate. A single incident risks damaging the achievements of several years in creating peace and security," he said.

KFOR has more than 3,700 soldiers in Kosovo, a significant number of whom come from non-NATO countries.

While the focus of the meeting, according to Bauer, was on the collective defense of the alliance after the beginning of the Russian aggression in Ukraine.

"NATO countries and military commands will be more coordinated than ever before. We will be ready to act with unprecedented speed," he said.

According to them, even after the conflict in Ukraine, the threat from Russia will continue, and NATO must be ready to face these threats for a longer time.

The committee is the highest military body of the alliance and acts on the basis of political instructions given by the North Atlantic Council, which is its highest political level.

With Finland and Sweden, NATO will have more than 3.2 million soldiers in uniform who will take care of the security of over one billion inhabitants, as many NATO countries have together./Rel
