The famous British singer and songwriter Linda Lewis has passed away at the age of 72. Her sister Dee Lewis Clay shared the news on social media, writing:

"It is with the greatest sadness that we share the news that our beloved sister, Linda Lewis has passed away peacefully at her home. The family asks that you respect our privacy at this heartbreaking time."

Recall that Lewis enjoyed solo success in the 1970s and a long career providing backing vocals for artists such as David Bowie and Rod Stewart. Born Linda Ann Fredericks in West Ham in 1950, the late attended drama school, took up acting and first appeared in the first Beatles film A Hard Day's Night in 1964. When she signed with Polydor, she adopted Lewis as her last name in honor of singer Barbara Lewis. Her sisters, Dee Lewis and Shirley Lewis, also singers, and their mother would later use the surname as well.
