The best European countries for work-life balance, where Albania ranks

In a 2025 survey by Gallup, a global analytics and consulting firm, 10,000 employees found that personal well-being is the most important factor when considering a job offer, followed by salary and job security. When it comes to work-life balance, Europe stands out as one of the best regions in the world.

This ranking focuses on factors such as maternity leave, sick pay, working hours, healthcare and social rights. The global score out of 100 takes into account annual leave, minimum wage, happiness index and more.

Top five places:

Ireland
Ireland ranks first with generous annual leave, healthcare and the highest minimum wage in Europe at €13.44 per hour (US$14.50). Recent improvements to statutory sick pay and public safety enhance work-life balance.

Iceland
Iceland offers an excellent work-life balance with 38 days of annual leave, 100% medical pay, excellent healthcare.

3. Denmark
The Danes are experts at work-life balance, thanks to short working hours, strong health care, and paid sick leave. Add to that a high happiness index, and it's clear why Denmark stands out for workers.

4. Belgium
Work-life balance thrives in Belgium with excellent healthcare, statutory leave and a good minimum wage. Its focus on inclusion and lower working hours make it a great place for employees looking for harmony.

5. Finland
Finnish workers enjoy a healthy work-life balance, thanks to affordable healthcare, paid parental leave and shorter work hours. High levels of happiness and engagement make Finland a leader in family-friendly policies.

Albania was also included in the survey, but out of the 30 countries listed, our country ranked 25th.

"The work-life balance score in Albania suffers from long working hours, lower salaries, and limited paid sick leave," the survey says.
