The trial against Milorad Dodik will begin on October 16

The beginning of the trial against the president of the Republika Srpska entity, Milorad Dodik, is scheduled for Monday, October 16, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) announced on Tuesday.

In August, the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina filed an indictment against Dodik and against the director of the official newspaper of Republika Srpska, Milosh Lukic, for not implementing the decisions of the high representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt.

The indictment against them was changed and then confirmed on September 11.

The lawyers of Dodik and Lukic in their objections stated that "the criminal offense for which Dodik is accused does not exist, because Schmidt is illegal".

On October 9, the Court of BiH confirmed to Radio Free Europe that it rejected the defense's objections as groundless.

The defense was denied two requests for the dismissal of judge Jasmine Dedović Qosić, who confirmed the indictment and then rejected the objections.

In June, the National Assembly of Republika Srpska adopted laws regarding the non-publication of decisions of the High Representative and the non-implementation of decisions of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

High Representative Schmidt then decided to abolish them.

Dodik signed the decree for the entry into force of these laws and Lukić published them in the Official Gazette of the Republika Srpska.

When he repealed the Republika Srpska law, Schmidt made changes to the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, according to which disobeying the decisions of the High Representative is a criminal offense.
