Tragedy in Kocani/ Authorities begin closing down unauthorized facilities in

Following the serious tragedy that shook North Macedonia, where 59 people lost their lives and over 150 others were injured in a devastating fire at the "Pulse" nightclub in Kocani, authorities have begun closing down establishments operating without a license.

The serious incident occurred on the morning of March 16, during a concert attended by over 500 people. The fire suddenly broke out after the lighting of pyrotechnic devices, spreading rapidly and causing massive casualties.

In response to the tragedy, the North Macedonian government has taken tough measures to crack down on establishments operating in violation of regulations. Government spokeswoman Marija Miteva said a number of hospitality establishments, including cabarets, nightclubs and discos that do not meet safety standards, have been closed.

"The State Market Inspectorate has conducted 50 inspections of establishments registered as cabarets and discotheques. These inspections showed that only 22 of them had a valid license, while another 15 either did not have a license at all, or were operating with expired licenses. All unlicensed establishments were immediately closed," said Miteva.

According to the authorities, the State Market Inspectorate will continue intensive checks across the country to ensure that all entertainment venues meet the necessary safety standards. Meanwhile, a broad investigation to clarify the causes and responsibilities for the tragic event is ongoing.

Due to the high number of victims, North Macedonia has declared a week of national mourning.
