Vučić and Dodik talk in Belgrade about the future of Serbia and Republika

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, and the president of the Serb entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, met on Tuesday in Belgrade.

Vucic said the meeting was of "fundamental importance for key issues for the Serbian people and for the future of Serbia and Republika Srpska."

"Our common goal is to preserve peace and stability, continue and strengthen economic growth, and protect the national interests of Serbia and Republika Srpska," Vučić wrote on Instagram.

He also emphasized that during the meeting, the Sretenja holiday, which is held on February 15, was discussed.

On June 8, 2024, the Government of Serbia and that of Republika Srpska adopted at a joint meeting a so-called Declaration on the Protection of National and Political Rights and the Common Future of the Serbian People.

The document, among other things, states that February 15 is the Statehood Day of Serbia and the Statehood Day of Republika Srpska, which should be celebrated together.

The adoption of this document was condemned by members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Becirović and Željko Komšić, as well as by the European Union and the United States of America.

Milorad Dodik is under sanctions by the United States and Great Britain for undermining the Dayton Agreement and his claims to the partition of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

With the 1995 Dayton Agreement, which ended the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the country was divided into two autonomous entities - the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska - plus the Brcko District, which is a self-governing administrative unit.

All of them are under the umbrella of the federal government and the rotating presidency./ REL
