Damascus airport opens to international flights for first time since fall of

For the first time since the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime, Damascus International Airport has resumed international flights, marking a historic turnaround after 13 years. The first flight arrived from Doha, creating a festive atmosphere at the airport, with citizens cheering and singing.

Cham Wings and SyrianAir airline employees, as well as ground staff, returned to duty while army forces maintained airport security. SyrianAir pilot Ali Reda expressed his happiness at the return and praised the new security measures that are in line with international standards.

Qatar has helped rehabilitate the airport, which has suffered damage from negligence and Israeli airstrikes. The head of the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority, Ashad al-Suleibi, praised this cooperation, underlining that the reopening represents a major step for the country.

The first passengers shared their emotions. Basma, a passenger flying to Doha, said that the journey from Damascus Airport was much more comfortable compared to crossings at the Lebanese border, which were often accompanied by obstacles and humiliation.

A team from the Jordanian Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission was also on board the flight to assess the technical condition of the airport, preparing the ground for the resumption of regular flights.

The reopening of Damascus Airport marks an important step towards the restoration of international air transport in Syria.
