Fierce battle expected, Ukraine: Russians are looting the houses of Kherson

Ukraine accused Russia of looting houses in the southern city of Kherson, where one of the most important battles of the war is expected to take place.

In recent days, Russia has ordered civilians to leave Kherson in anticipation of a Ukrainian offensive to retake the city, which was the first to be captured by Russian forces after their invasion in February.

Kherson, with a pre-war population of nearly 300,000, has been left cold and dark after power and water were cut, both sides said.

Russian-installed officials blamed Ukrainian "sabotage," while Ukrainian officials said the Russians had dismantled 1.5 km of power lines.

About 100 disabled children were moved from a medical facility in Dnipriany in the Kherson region of the Moscow region, Ukraine's military said on Monday. Patients from a nursing home in Kakhovka were also being relocated and Russian forces are taking over those facilities, he said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Monday that the Donetsk region in the east remains the "epicenter" of the conflict, with hundreds of Russians being killed every day.

Russia lost all the territory it occupied in northern Ukraine and in recent months has faced major setbacks in the east and south.
