DP condemns the violence against teacher Liljana Elmazi-Billa: Threat to women

The Democratic Party has condemned the violence against lecturer Liljana Elmazi-Billa at the Faculty of Economics, where the head of the Marketing-Tourism department punched her.

The coordinator of the Tirana region, Klevis Balliu, said in a statement that such an act not only crosses ethical, moral and professional boundaries, but is a threat to women educators, to the safety of our universities and the school system.

Declaration:

The Democratic Party strongly condemns the verbal and physical violence against teacher Liljana Elmazi-Billa.

The use of violence in public university environments, in the auditoriums of the Faculty of Economics, makes this act even more serious and unacceptable.

The blow of Mrs. Elmazi-Billa contains, not only the injury of the lecturer, but also the insult to the institutions of higher education and colleagues.

Today, we do not stand up to Mr. Liljana Elmaz as a colleague, or as a former deputy of the Democratic Party, but as an educator, as a wife and as a mother.

Any such act not only crosses ethical, moral and professional boundaries, but is a threat to women educators, to the safety of our universities and the school system.

The fact that it was caused by a colleague of hers, in a university environment, is a bell that has inside the alarm of violence, but also of the degeneration of the education system in Albania, which the Democratic Party has strongly emphasized in public statements.

The spiral of violence inspired by the power of Edi Rama, exercised sometimes by gangs, sometimes by the Police on protesters and innocent citizens, supported by segments of the media and society that do not react against it, must be stopped once and for all.

Wishing Ms. Elmazi-Billa a speedy recovery, we ask the responsible institutions for professionalism in handling such cases of high public sensitivity.

On this occasion, we call on the citizens to join the opposition on Thursday, July 11 at 8:00 p.m., as a way to condemn this blatant act of aggression against a woman, mother and teacher.
