Berisha's 3rd return to the helm of the Democratic Party, support was not

Sali Berisha returned to the helm of the Democratic Party. The "non grata" decision, which forced him to return strongly to politics, did not penalize him, not even the pressure of internationals who would sever relations with the DP, if Berisha returned, as yesterday it was proved that the Democrats are with him.

He managed to get almost all the votes against his rival in the race, Ibsen Elezit. For the latter, Berisha said after the victory: "I have a special greeting for Ibsen Elez, for my rival who as a true democrat held a civilized race."

This is Berisha's third return to the helm of the Democratic Party, the largest opposition force in the country. He came to the helm of the PD in 1991 and led the party for a year after being elected President.

Berisha returned in '97 and remained as chairman of the DP until 2013, when he resigned. From 2013 he was a member of the Assembly, but distanced himself from public debates.

The "non grata" decision on corruption, which was decided by the US State Department about a year ago, made Sali Berisha return to clean up his dignity, as he himself declared.

He started his political action in September, when former President Lulzim Basha expelled him from the parliamentary group after international pressure. Berisha launched "Foltoret", which was joined by most Democrats and senior party officials. His movement came to consolidate over these months, bringing him back to the helm of the DP.

According to Berisha, the returns have shown to be success stories.

"Returns to history have been only successes, it is true that I return after 8 years but if someone asks me what are the differences between Berisha of 2013 and that of 2021. I can tell you that I sleep less than in 2013 I work more and I read more " , declared Berisha a few months ago.
