The Bank of Albania has put into circulation today two new denominations of 500 and 2000 lek banknotes.

In the official announcement, the BoA indicates that both banknotes have a refreshed design, but retain the same motifs presented in the existing denominations.

The changes relate to some added elements, mainly those of banknote security. New banknotes are used as a means of payment, along with existing ones of all denominations.

"Today, on January 17, 2022, the Bank of Albania launches into circulation the next two denominations of the new series of Albanian banknotes with legal tender, 500 Lekë and 2000 Lekë.

Both banknotes come with a refreshed design, but retain the same motifs presented in the respective existing denominations. They reflect changes related to the overall configuration of the added and improved elements of banknote design and security.

With these two banknotes, the Bank of Albania completes the issuance of the new series of banknotes, which consists of 6 denominations: 200, 500, 1000, 2000, 5000 and 10000 Lekë " , it is stated in the announcement of the Bank of Albania.
