Accused of cocaine trafficking in Europe, Dubai Court acquits Albanian Armando

A court in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, has ordered the release of Armando Pacani, an Albanian citizen wanted by Brazilian authorities for leading a criminal organization involved in cocaine trafficking in Europe.

Pacani, who was arrested in July and was on Interpol's Red Notice, was released in November after the extradition process from Brazil was incomplete due to deficiencies in the required documentation, including the Arabic translation and necessary signatures.

Pacani, known by the code names "Albanês", "Forbes" and "Globe", is accused of drug trafficking, money laundering and criminal organization, running a network that sent cocaine to Europe through ports in Brazil.

According to investigations, the group had transported at least 13 shipments of cocaine, with one large shipment being seized in November 2022 by the French navy near Sierra Leone, which contained 4.6 tons of cocaine.

Armando Pacani has been on the run since March 2023 and was captured in July of this year after an international operation coordinated by Brazilian authorities, the DEA, Europol and French authorities.

Pacani's lawyer has emphasized that the accused is innocent and that he is seeking his exclusion from Interpol and the removal of evidence based on encrypted interception messages on "Sky EÇ", which he says violates the law.

The United Arab Emirates Ministry of Justice has emphasized that Pacani's release occurred within the framework of extradition procedures and in accordance with international law, while maintaining the security of possible ongoing operations.
