The Albanian Electric Power Corporation (KESH) completed the last energy purchase procedure for September 9 (Friday), for which it spent around 1.5 million euros.

It is about 3084 MWH of energy with an average price of 476.77 euros/MWh. The amount purchased is approximately 15 percent of the average daily consumption.

Meanwhile, the new procedure has already been activated on the KESH website, which requires 12,000 MWh of energy for two days, September 10 and 11.

In total, the Corporation's imports from the beginning of the year until now have exceeded 300 million euros. The government calculates that by the end of the year, despite price fluctuations in the stock market, it will need about 200 million euros as enough to meet the demand at a time when the cascade production is limited due to the lack of rainfall.

In the Hungarian Stock Exchange, which is also a reference for Albania, energy prices have suffered a significant decrease compared to a week ago when they reached their peak and one MWh was sold for 1047 euros, making the situation alarming.

The drop in demand due to this level, combined with the drop in the price of oil, seems to have influenced a gradual decrease that during this week has reduced prices between 350-500 euros/MWh.

Specifically, the price for September 8 at the base was 481 euros/MWh, while at the peak it was 499 euros/MWh. For September 9, based on 1 MWh, energy was sold for 384 euros/MWh. Usually at the weekend, due to the drop in demand in the stock market, there is a further reduction in prices, but due to the situation of these months, this trend has sometimes been reversed. It remains to be seen what the price will be for the weekend.

Meanwhile, KESH has continued during this time with optimization procedures in an attempt to have an amortization of costs in its economic portfolio. The situation in the cascade remains unclear as the last data refresh was made on August 28 when the energy reserve fell to 541 Gwh.

The energy situation in the country continues to remain the headline as a day ago the government unveiled its plan where, in addition to saving, there will also be a price review for those who consume in the band above 800 KWh. The latter will pay 9.5 Lek for 800 KWh and each KWh above this value with a fee of 42 Lek, which includes 35 Lek for the cost of energy and 7 Lek for transmission and distribution./Monitor
