The Association of Foreign Journalists in Switzerland and Liechtenstein-APES (The Foreign Press Association in Switzerland and Liechtenstein) based in Geneva in the General Assembly held last night has elected the new presidency. At the head of this international association, our well-known journalist Nefail Maliqi, who runs the Swiss newspaper in Albanian, Le Canton27.ch, was elected. The president of the said association was elected Mr. Jean Musy.

This association, which has been operating for 94 years, counts about 120 journalists from all over the world, has made a historic selection as it is the first time that an Albanian journalist is placed in its presidency.

Nefail Maliqi, who is known as a militant of free speech, during the interviews for the Swiss media, stated that "this is a success not only of mine, but of Albanian journalism in general, where a journalist from the Balkans is elected to the presidency of an international association ".

In his 25 years of experience, he has worked as a correspondent from the UN headquarters for several prestigious media such as BBC, Deutsche Welle, The Geneva Post, Top Channel, Bota Sot, Tribune de Geneve, ATSH, Presheva Jonë and recently for the Swiss newspaper Le Canton27.ch

The election of colleague Nefail Maliqi, at the head of this international association, was also supported by the colleagues of the Swiss and European sister associations (IFJ, Reporter sans Frontières..), with which he has been cooperating for two decades in favor of journalists and free speech.

Maliqi is known as one of the most active journalists in the Albanian diaspora, contributing to the advancement of democratic and very delicate processes such as raising awareness about the issue of Kosovo and not only, as well as the entire Albanian issue in the international arena.

APES is considered not only the voice of democracy and tolerance in Switzerland, but also of 12 international organizations of the UN (HCR, CDH, OIM, ICRC, ILO, OMPI, ITU, UNICEF, UNESCO, etc...)

The APERS committee of six members is considered the "kokomoto" of 120 international journalists, representatives of the most prestigious media from all over the world.

The Foreign Press Association in Switzerland and Liechtenstein (APES - The Foreign Press Association in Switzerland and Liechtenstein) was founded in 1928 in Geneva.
