The scandal in Memaliaj! "Human bones on the surface", the firm

Fiks Fare denounced on Monday evening a scandal in the village of Gllavë in Memaliaj, where the company which is building the Berat-Këlcyre road has destroyed the cemetery and brought human bones to the surface.

In fact, the actions of the construction company were done with the "help" of the Memaliaj Police and the Buz Administrative Unit, which were present when the excavations were done. But not only that, as the firm and these institutions tried to hide the event, despite the family's denunciation that "there were no cemeteries and bones" in that place.

The Cora family complained to the newsroom of the investigative show, which denounced the company "Cobial", which is carrying out works on the road connecting Berat with Këlcyra, for destroying their old family cemetery. Haxhi and Paolo Cora show that on November 1, 2024, the company "Cobial" excavated near the family cemetery. "We are not against the road, on the contrary, we congratulate the government that is building this road, they destroyed our cemetery and took out the remains of our ancestors and no one is responsible. Before they did these works, we persistently asked them not to do any works at the cemetery, but they did not listen to us. In fact, on the day they came and performed those works, a police jeep also came," they say.

Paolo says that he had a conflict with the company's workers not to dig, but he was kept isolated in a police jeep. Afterwards, the firm did excavations with the help of the police and the Administrative Unit, where they threw the soil where they could. "Now the bones have come to the surface" they say. The documentary filmed some bones at the site, which are not complete. "These are not the only ones, as we also found bones in the soil pile. Before digging, the administrator of the Buz Unit, in Memaliaj, came with some workers with picks and shovels to excavate. We didn't allow them because they didn't have any exhumation decision," they say, as the excavations were then carried out. Paolo says that he made reports and complaints, but even after it was excavated, the head of the Police Station in Memalilaj came again and did not find any bones. "He came and didn't find it. He didn't see it at all and only reported that he didn't find it," says Paolo.

Fiksi calls the manager of the company "Cobial", Veledin Zaçe, who says that there was a conflict with this family and asked for the help of the local police to do the work. Fiksi informs him that the works have destroyed the cemetery and that bones have also been found in that place. He denies it, as he says that they may have been placed by family members in that place. The reporters ask him to come and see for himself, as he says he will send someone in charge. "We have done the whole procedure, the police and the crime department in the Gjirokastra District were also there, and those bones are fabricated because we dug there and there was no cemetery there. I don't know where they got them and brought them there. That we dug there because the Judicial Police Officer was also there," he says.

Afterwards, Fiksi talks with an employee of the company "Cobial", who says that he was the one who did those works and that no bones were found there. The journalists show him the bones and he says that he had no idea and that the bosses took him there. Fiksi tells him that there is a cemetery there and that the family has warned the company. Answers that the project was in that place and that the order was to work.

The fix also went to the Buz Administrative Unit, in Memaliaj. Administrator Dituri Koçiu was not in the office and journalists called her. She says that she was warned by the police to go to that area, as she adds that she only went to see and not exhume. Fiksi tells her that the workers had pickaxes and shovels, while she replies that it was just to see and they didn't have an exhumation order. Journalists ask him who gave permission for those works to be carried out, despite the family's warnings. She says the police.

The group of the show Fiks Fare also went to the Police post in Memaliaj, where they are looking for the chief Erald Telo, who was present when the works were done. Other police officers said that the chief is not in Memaliaj, but in Tirana. The chief says that he notified the Administrative Unit and they went to quell the conflict. We asked the journalist for information that the cemetery was destroyed in that place, while he replied that "there was none". But, when they inform him that bones have been found, even on the surface, he claims that "I went twice and didn't find them". At the end it says I will send a group to verify it. / Top Channel
