'The Mirror': How was the Albanian protest in London received by

Albanian immigrants protested yesterday on the "Westminster" bridge in London against the statements of the Secretary of the Interior Suella Braverman, who labeled the Albanians as "criminals" who emigrated to Britain to become part of the gangs.

Thousands of Albanian protesters gathered in Parliament Square where they covered the statue of Winston Churchill with the red and black flag. More than 1,500 Albanians called on the government to respect them as people and their human rights, The Mirror reports.

But as Albanian immigrants demanded their rights, British politicians saw the protest as a sign of deliberate provocation against the government, at a time when Armed Forces veterans were preparing for their Remembrance Sunday duties.

The demonstrators' route to Downing Street was then cordoned off by police.

Tory MP Sir John Hayes told Mail Online: "It is insulting and shocking that at a time when we remember the two European wars and other conflicts of the 20th century, these protesters have targeted a statue of our great war leader Sir Winston Churchill. This is deeply offensive as we gather to commemorate the fallen this weekend."

Another Tory, MP Tom Hunt, said: "I don't know how they thought that would endear them to people in this country. How did they think that putting their country's flag on a monument to a hero national was nothing but insulting, terrible and counterproductive to what they wanted to achieve?".

The protest lasted only a few hours, while the number of banners with the special statements: "I am Albanian, I am not a criminal, I work hard and pay more taxes than the prime minister's wife" stood out ; "Suella should be sent to Rwanda" ; "Suella spreads lies like Cruella" ; "We need the UK government to apologise" .
