Tirana is ranked as the capital with the worst quality to live in Europe and among the last in the world, according to Numbeo, the largest data system for cost and quality of life.

High house prices in relation to income, pollution, low purchasing power, time spent in traffic, unfavorable health care system, are some of the indicators that make the Albanian capital poorly positioned in this ranking.

In the new ranking of 2022, Tirana is in 229th place, deteriorating from the previous year when it was in 222nd position. The Albanian capital is ranked among the last in the world, out of 255 cities that are taken in total in the ranking.

Of the other capitals in the region, Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina rank 188th, having the best position in the Balkans. Serbia's Belgrade ranks 206th and Northern Macedonia's Skopje ranks 216th.

Kosovo and Montenegro are missing in this ranking.

According to the Numbeo methodology explanation, the Quality of Life Index (the higher the better) is an assessment of the overall quality of life, which uses an empirical formula that takes into account the following indicators:

Purchasing power index (the higher the better). Tirana is in 122nd place, among the last in Europe)

-Pollution index (lower is better) - The Albanian capital is in 243rd place, mine polluted in Europe and among the last in the world out of 255 in total. The ratio of house prices to income (the lower the better). Tirana is in 207th place, among the most expensive cities in Europe to buy a house in terms of income)

-Living cost index , (lower is better). Here the capital ranks slightly better, at 67th place, where the ranking starts from the cheapest.

-Security index (higher is better). The Albanian capital ranks 129th, a moderate position.

-Indeksi i Kujdesit Shëndetësor (më i lartë është më mirë). Tirana është në vendin e 245, e fundit në Europë dhe ndër 11 të fundit në botë.

-Indeksi i kohës së qëndrimit në trafik (më i ulët është më mirë). Këtu Tirana renditet nga fundit në vendin e 182).

-Indeksi i Klimës (më i lartë është më mirë), ku kryeqyteti renditet në vendin e 86, me një klimë relativisht të përshtatshme).
