The murder of Shkëlzen Kastrati is left in Albert Zaja cell

The court of Fier has imposed the security measure "prison arrest" for Albert Zaja, arrested as the perpetrator of the murder of Shkelzen Kastrati on February 1 this year.

During the court hearing, Albert Zaja claimed that he was not the executor of Kastrati. The 37-year-old stated that he was afraid of enmity and asked to be sent to Vlora prison, but eventually decided to stay in Fier prison.

Zaja was arrested on Sunday in Nikël of Fushë Krujë, while Elmir Tufa, 29, Elson Xhecuka, 27, and Silvio Cara, 39, are also suspected of killing Kastrati, who are still wanted.

Zaja is suspected of being a paid killer, while the three wanted citizens are accused of being his accomplices, while it is still unknown who ordered the assassination of Kastrati and the reason for his execution.

Kastrati was executed on the morning of February 1, in the village of Sheq in Fier inside his car. He was driving while being shot at by a Range Rover. The "Range Rover" car was found burned in Mbrostar after the event and turned out to have been stolen a few months ago in Greece. The assassination attempt on Shkëlzen Kastrati was uncovered thanks to the testimony of a resident of the area, who told the police about an Audi type car with which the perpetrators left after burning the "Range Rover".

Investigators believe the killing was in retaliation for a series of killings between the Kastrati tribe and the Gemini, dating back to 2008.

The victim Shkëlzen Kastrati, 42 years old, is the brother of Klement Kastrati who escaped an assassination attempt 5 years ago in Mbrostar of Fier, in which his brother-in-law Denis (Granit) Kasa was killed. Klement Kastrati was also accused by the police of involvement in narcotics trafficking in 2016.
