Stone's grandfather died when she was 14 years old while her sister, Kelly 11. The actress described his death as a relief from what she had experienced.

"I touched him when he was in the coffin and I felt a strange relief that he was at least dead. "I saw Kelly and she realized it was over," Stone wrote in the book.
