"Pew Research": 6 in 10 Americans have taken a break from Twitter

Last year, six out of 10 Americans took a break from Twitter. This is the conclusion of a survey by the "Pew Research" study center, based on the questions of 10,701 users. Elon Musk became the owner of the platform in October 2022 and a few days ago decided that the CEO of Twitter will be a woman, Linda Yaccarino, who comes from NBC Universal. In a report, Pew writes:

Six in 10 Americans who have used Twitter in the past 12 months say they took a break from the platform for a period of several weeks or more during that time.

In a separate analysis, the company also studied the current behavior of the 1,020 most active Twitter users and found a significant drop in posts in the months following the acquisition by Elon Musk. The study notes:

The average number of monthly tweets from these users decreased by about 25% after the acquisition. Among Twitter users, more women than men say they took a break from the platform in the past year. The ratio is 69% against 54%.

Also, the survey asked users how likely they are to use the platform a year from now?

40% said they are very likely to use it, 35% are likely to use it, a quarter of users surveyed said they are not very likely or not at all likely to be on the platform within a year.

Musk completed his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter on October 28 last year and immediately left his mark, firing the company's top executives and laying off hundreds of employees, among other measures.

Under Musk, Twitter's core advertising business suffered somewhat when some companies halted their paid promotional campaigns as the social messaging service saw an increase in abusive speech and offensive rhetoric.

We also remember that Elon Musk allowed previously banned users to return to the platform and created political controversy with statements such as the claim that the media was racist against whites and Asians.
