Alimehmeti on the parliamentary elections: Some received over 20 thousand votes

The former candidate of the Democratic Party for deputy in Tirana, Ilir Alimehmeti, has raised strong accusations against state institutions regarding irregularities in the May 11 parliamentary elections. Invited to the show "Log", Alimehmeti said that the elections did not reflect the will of the people, while raising doubts about manipulated votes and unknown individuals that resulted in over 20 thousand votes.

"It is useless to talk about the will of the people. In these elections, some came out who received over 20 thousand votes and no one knows them. Not even the Minister of the Interior can take them, while the competent bodies do nothing for investigations into electoral crimes," said Alimehmeti.
He added that the institutions are on "pause" and that only the opposition is really dealing with the collection of evidence for electoral manipulations.

Alimehmeti also mentioned the OSCE/ODIHR report, which according to him confirms that the elections were not fair, due to the use of public administration and the forgiveness of fines by the government just three days before the elections – actions that he describes as a means to influence the electorate.

"Problems are not solved by those who created them. If we don't take even half a step forward, we can't move any further. The only thing left for the people is to leave," he concluded, underlining the deep crisis of trust in the electoral process and institutions.
Alimehmet's statements come at a time when the opposition has warned of lawsuits and criminal reports against individuals and institutions suspected of manipulating the election result.
