After three terms/ Erdogan: He will not run for president again

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has confirmed that he does not intend to run for president again, stressing that the country needs a new constitution that reflects the spirit of the modern era and democratic values.

“I do not intend to run for president again. Our only goal is to improve the reputation of our country. Turkey is changing, the world is changing. We are living in a new era. Do you think that in such a dynamic world we can move forward with a constitution drafted during a coup, which still conveys the mentality of the putschists? Turkey can no longer move forward with such a constitution. We need a constitution proposed by civilians, not by the putschists, ” he said, according to the Anadolu Agency.

The opposition, on the other hand, often expresses doubts about Erdogan's intentions, claiming that his reforms are aimed at strengthening personal power and suppressing independent institutions. However, his declaration of withdrawal could pave the way for a new political dynamic, especially ahead of the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.

Erdogan was re-elected for a third time as president of Turkey in 2023 and will remain in office until 2028.
