Plane crashes into homes in San Diego, California, several casualties reported

A small private plane crashed in San Diego, California, falling into a residential neighborhood.

As a result, several casualties and significant damage were caused. 

City police and fire officials said the plane could carry eight to ten people, but have not yet confirmed how many people were on board, Skynews writes .

Eddy said no one on the ground was injured in Thursday's incident, which happened around 3:45 a.m. local time near Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport.

After the crash, several homes were destroyed and multiple cars caught fire. Authorities have evacuated about 100 people and are working to determine the cause of the accident. The plane is believed to have been heading to Montgomery Field, a nearby airport. The investigation is ongoing and more information is expected in the coming hours.
