He was executed in the vineyard where he was working, the Greek police identify

The Greek police have managed to identify the suspected perpetrator of the murder of Altin Arapaj, the 41-year-old Albanian who was executed with a firearm this morning in the Rafina area, in Athens. The victim was shot dead inside a vineyard, while his body was found with a bullet in the face.

According to official sources, the suspected perpetrator is Mikel Selimaj, 46 years old, originally from Vlora, and a person with criminal records for drug issues both in Greece and Albania.

The Greek authorities have identified Selimaj after the testimonies of the victim's family members and the analysis of the evidence collected at the scene. According to sources, it was the victim himself, Altin Arapaj, who called his wife immediately after the injury, telling her the name of the person who had shot him.

Arapaj, also from Vlora, has a criminal past in Greece, for various criminal offenses, including narcotics trafficking. Greek investigators are investigating the trail of a racketeering between people involved in criminal activity, looking at the common past of the victim and the suspected perpetrator.

Greek police forces have launched an extensive operation to capture Mikel Selimaj, who is currently on the run. Also, the Greek authorities are in cooperation with the Albanian side, in order to clarify and fully document this serious event.
