"Stranger Things" star Noah Schnapp confirms the obvious about Will:

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Season 4 of "Stranger Things."

Noah Schnapp who plays Will Byers on "Stranger Things" has confirmed that his character on the Netflix mega-hit is gay, verifying the season's open teases and hints.

"Obviously, it was hinted at in Season 1: There was always something there, but you never really knew, is he just growing up slower than his friends?" Schnapp tells Variety. "Now that he's grown up, they made it a very real, visible thing. Now it's 100 percent clear that he's gay and he loves Mike. But before, it was a slow arc."

"Stranger Things" star Noah Schnapp confirms the obvious about Will:

Fan theories "exploded" all over the place after season 3, in which Will and Mike (Finn Wolfhard) had a fight. Will felt that he was being left behind by his friends, prompting Mike to remark, "It's not my fault you don't like girls!"

That episode's executive producer and director Shawn Levy told EW that the moment was "not specific to sexual orientation or anything." But with season 4, he teased : "There aren't a lot of accidents in Stranger Things. There's a clear purpose and real strategy and thought to each character. So if you came away from Volume 1 feeling those breadcrumbs of plot and character , maybe it's not a coincidence."

"Stranger Things" star Noah Schnapp confirms the obvious about Will:

"I think it's done so beautifully because it's so easy to make a character just suddenly be gay," Schnapp tells Variety. "People have come up to me - I was just in Paris and this 40-year-old man came up to me and said, 'Wow, this Will character made me feel so good. And I connected with him. That's exactly what I was when I was a kid.' That made me so happy to hear. They're writing this real character and this real journey and real struggle and they're doing it really well."

Season 4 of Stranger Things is now streaming on Netflix.
