23 years since the terrorist attacks in the USA

The United States of America commemorates its 23rd anniversary today. The attack on the twin towers was carried out on September 11, 2001 by a group of 19 hijackers, 15 of whom were from Saudi Arabia, two from the United Arab Emirates, one from Egypt and one from Lebanon.

First, a hijacked plane crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York, creating a deep crack in the building and causing a fire, while 17 minutes later another passenger plane crashed into the south tower.

In the attack of September 11, 2001, about 3 thousand people lost their lives. Among the victims in the twin towers were 2,752 people, including 343 firefighters and 60 policemen. Most of the victims were civilians of 70 different nationalities.

Ceremonies in New York and Washington will begin with a minute's silence at the time of the attacks.

Experts say that September 11, 2001 changed many things in the world. These events led to the launch of a broad US-led campaign against terrorism.
