55 people dead in Pakistan

At least 55 people have been killed and more than 50 others have been injured as a result of an explosion in Pakistan, the authorities of this country have said.

The explosion occurred near a mosque in the southwestern province of Baluchistan on Friday, as people gathered to celebrate the Prophet Muhammad's birthday.

The police suspect that the attack was suicide in the gathering of believers in the town of Mastung.

Officials have declared a state of emergency.

The police said that the victims are being transported to two hospitals.

Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugri has considered the explosion a "heinous act".

Many images on social media showed people being transported by emergency services and local residents.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack./rel
