US President-elect Donald Trump has taken full credit for the Gaza ceasefire deal, saying it would never have been achieved without his and his incoming administration's pressure.

"If we weren't involved in this deal, the deal would never have happened. We changed the course of things and we changed it quickly, and frankly, it's better to have this deal finalized before the ceremony when I'm going to be sworn in," Trump said during a television appearance.

The president-elect accused Biden of being tactless in taking credit for reaching the agreement.

"He did nothing! If I hadn't done this, if we hadn't gotten involved, the hostages would never have been released!" Trump said.
